Principles of Community Advocate Award

Principles of Community Advocate Award:
This award is presented to an employee of ABS who has been an advocate for the Virginia Tech Principles of Community within ABS, the university community, and beyond.
Criteria:
Nominations will be evaluated based on the employee’s actions in advancing inclusion and diversity, promoting, encouraging, and affirming inclusivity within their department, community, and the university.
Eligibility:
Nominations will be evaluated on criteria articulated in the Virginia Tech Principles of Community and the employee’s impact on advancing the Principles of Community within their department and the university.
Nominations for this award must be accompanied by a narrative describing the reason for the nomination. If the nominator is not the employee’s supervisor, the nominated employee’s supervisor must endorse the nomination.
Award Process:
Communication will be sent out annually to open the nomination period, with due dates listed for nominations. Nominations must be accompanied by a narrative describing the reason for the nomination. If the nominator is not the employee’s supervisor, the nomination must be endorsed by the employee’s supervisor. Once nominations are received, the ABS Chief of Staff and ABS HR Manager will screen the nominations first for compliance with the award parameters, then for good standing before being brought before an ad-hoc committee led by the Chief of Staff, established by the Vice President. The proposed winner will be confirmed by the Vice President. Each year, the previous winner will be added to the ad-hoc committee as a reviewer.
Award:
$500, engraved Hokie stone, and 8 hours of leave.
