The Innovation Award

This award is presented to an employee or team within ABS that honors contributions to the division and/or university that recognizes exceptional contributions toward efficiency and effectiveness of operations, special efforts in promoting workforce excellence, transformational and visionary ideas in the areas that include but are not limited to process improvement, technology improvement, or collaboration that advanced the work of one or more units in a manner that may be considered ambitious by many.

Criteria:

Nominations will be evaluated on outstanding achievement or contribution through creative solutions; demonstration of significant, effective, and efficient operations; and consistent demonstration of a cooperative and positive attitude.

Eligibility:

Employee(s) must be in good standing with no personnel issues. Each candidate nominated must have two (2) letters of recommendation, one being from their supervisor. Individual employees are only eligible to be the recipient of any division award (except the Positively Hokie award) once every three years. However, individuals can be eligible as a part of a team award annually.

Award Process:

Communication will be sent out annually to open the nomination period, with due dates listed for nominations. Once nominations are received, the ABS Chief of Staff and ABS HR Manager will screen the nominations first for compliance with the award parameters, then for good standing before being brought before an ad-hoc committee led by the Chief of Staff, established by the Vice President. The proposed winner will only then be proposed to the Vice President to determine the winner of the award.

Award:

$300 each, engraved Hokie stone, and 8 hours of leave per person. For teams of 10 or more, $130 each, engraved Hokie stone, and 8 hours of leave per person.
