Inclusion & Diversity Advocate Award
The Innovation & Diversity Advocate Award:
This award is presented to an employee within ABS who has demonstrated a significant commitment to advocating for inclusion and diversity within the university community. By promoting inclusivity and embracing diverse perspectives, these individuals help create a more welcoming and supportive environment for everyone. Recognizing and celebrating these efforts not only underscores their importance but also inspires others to contribute to our inclusive culture.
Criteria:
Nominations will be evaluated based on the employee’s actions in advancing inclusion and diversity, promoting, encouraging, and affirming inclusivity within their department, community, and the university.
Eligibility:
Employee must be in good standing with no personnel issues. Individual employees are only eligible to receive any division award (except the Positively Hokie Award) once every three years.
Award Process:
Communication will be sent out annually to open the nomination period, with due dates listed for nominations. Nominations must be accompanied by a narrative describing the reason for the nomination. If the nominator is not the employee’s supervisor, the nomination must be endorsed by the employee’s supervisor. Once nominations are received, the ABS Chief of Staff and ABS HR Manager will screen the nominations first for compliance with the award parameters, then for good standing before being brought before an ad-hoc committee led by the Chief of Staff, established by the Vice President. The proposed winner will be confirmed by the Vice President. Each year, the previous winner will be added to the ad-hoc committee as a reviewer.
Award:
$500, engraved Hokie stone, and 8 hours of leave.
