Pam Tate, Assistant Director of Auxiliary Services
What advice would you give to someone aspiring to a managerial role?
First you want to be adaptable and open to change, you want to be an effective communicator by being clear, active and approachable. Lead by example and empathy. Be a good mentor and coach, and invest in team development. You must be able to delegate effectively.
How do you measure success in your position?
I like to measure my success by the success of my team, as well as my achievements and goals. If my team has succeeded and grown, I feel that it will reflect on my success as a manager.
How do you build and maintain relationships with stakeholders and partners?
By building their trust and being clear and transparent through open communication. I try to be approachable and consistent and stay in touch with regular check ins.
How do you maintain a work-life balance?
This can be difficult at times, but with 8 grandchildren who play every sport, it is important to turn off my work mode at times and be in the moment. I try to prioritize tasks, delegate when possible and be flexible.
