Nick Quint, Sustainable Transportation Manager

What advice would you give to someone aspiring to a managerial role?
I had a professor who would say the most important thing is knowing what you are and are not good at. In that vein, I would advise someone to build off of their strengths and find ways to overcome weaknesses.
How do you measure success in your position?
The most significant way I measure success is by the success of my team. I also look at progress towards/achievement of goals.
How do you build and maintain relationships with stakeholders and partners?
Being transparent is key. I've found that it helps build trust and even resolve conflicts. Setting up regular communication has also helped maintain relationships.
How do you maintain a work-life balance?
This is definitely something I find is always a work in progress. One thing I've done lately that's been helpful is trying to unplug when I'm at home. I find that it's too easy for me to get distracted by notifications on my phone, and the next thing I know I'm thinking about work. Unplugging has helped me feel more recharged when I arrive back at work, and I feel like I'm able to be more productive.
